1. 테만인 엘리파즈가 대답하여 말하였다.
2. "하나님께 남자가 유익하겠느냐? 참으로 분별력 있는 자가 그에게 유익하겠느냐?
3. 네가 의롭다고 전능자에게 기쁨이 있으며 네 길이 완전하다고 그에게 이익이 있겠느냐?
4. 네 경외함 때문에 그가 너를 책망하시고 너와 함께 재판정에 들어가시겠느냐?
5. 네 많은 악과 끝이 없는 네 죄악들 때문이 아니겠느냐?
6. 너는 네 형제들을 공연히 볼모로 잡고 헐벗은 자들의 옷들을 벗기며
7. 지친 자에게 물을 마시게 하지 않고 굶주린 자에게서 빵을 가로막았다.
8. 힘 있는 사람은 땅이 그의 것이라 귀족이 그곳에 살며
9. 과부들을 너는 빈손으로 보내고 고아들의 팔들을 부러뜨렸다.
10. 그러므로 네 사방은 덫들이 있고 두려움이 갑자기 너를 놀라게 하며
11. 또 어둠 때문에 네가 보지 못하고 홍수가 너를 덮을 것이다.
12. 하나님께서 높은 하늘에 계시지 않느냐? 가장 높이 있는 별들을 보아라.
13. 그러나 너는 말한다. '하나님이 무엇을 아시겠느냐? 흑암 중에서 그가 심판하시겠느냐?
14. 구름들이 그를 가려 그는 보시지 못하며 하늘의 둥근 천장을 그는 걸어 다니신다.'
15. 불의한 사람들이 밟던 옛날 길을 네가 지키려느냐?
16. 그들은 때가 아닌데 잡아채어져 갔고 강물에 그들의 기초가 침몰되었다.
17. 하나님께 '우리를 떠나십시오. 전능자가 우리를 위하여 무엇을 하실 수 있습니까?'라고 말하던 자들이다.
18. 그러나 그는 그들의 집들을 좋은 것으로 채우셨다. -악인들의 조언은 내게서 멀다!-
19. 의인들이 보고 기뻐하며 죄 없는 자들이 그들을 조롱하여
20. '확실히 우리 대적이 말살되고 그들이 남긴 것을 불이 삼켰다.'라고 할 것이다.
21. 자, 그와 화해하고 그것들에 관하여 평안하여라. 좋은 것이 네게 올 것이다.
22. 자, 그의 입에서 토라를 취하고 그의 말씀들을 네 마음속에 두어라.
23. 만일 네가 전능자께로 돌아가고 불의를 네 천막에서 멀리하면 네가 지어질 것이다.
24. 금을 흙 위에 두고 오피르의 금을 와디의 돌에 두면
25. 전능자께서 네게 금이 되시고 귀한 은이 되실 것이다.
26. 참으로 그때 전능자 때문에 네가 기뻐하여 네 얼굴을 하나님께로 들 것이다.
27. 네가 그에게 간구할 때 그가 너를 들으시니 네 서원을 네가 갚을 것이다.
28. 네가 어떤 것을 결정하여 말하면 그것이 네게 이루어질 것이고 네 길들 위에 빛이 비추어질 것이다.
29. 그들이 낮출 때 너는 '힘내라!'라고 말하니 이는 낮춘 눈들을 그가 구원하시기 때문이다.
30. 그가 결백하지 않은 자를 구하시니 네 손의 깨끗함으로 구해질 것이다."
이욥(욥기) 22장
𝐉𝐎𝐁 𝟐𝟐
¶ THEN Eliphaz, the Temanite, answered and said:
O man, can you converse with God;
are you equal with Him in wisdom ?
What do you profit by trying to make it seem:
that your ways are perfect:
---------because you are afraid ?
He will reprove you,
and enter into judgment with you.
¶ Behold, your wickedness is great,
and there is no end to your sins.
For you have taken a pledge from your brothers for nothing,
and stripped the naked of their clothing.
You have not given water -- to the weary to drink,
and you have withheld bread -- from the hungry.
There is a man who sows a field for himself,
and the mighty man seizes it from him by force.
𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐲,
𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐧.
Therefore snares are round about you,
and sudden fear causes you to tremble:
Where is the darkness, that you cannot see,
and the flood of water that covers you ?
Behold, God is in the height of heaven,
and sees the highest of the stars that are very high.
And yet you say:
How does God know ?
Can He judge through the thick darkness ?
Thick clouds are a covering to Him,
so that men cannot see Him,
and He walks upon the circle of the heaven.
¶ Have you marked well the old way
which wicked men have trodden long ago ?
𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞,
𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞,
𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫:
𝐖𝐇𝐎 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐝 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠,
Who said to God:
𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐮𝐬,
what can God do for us ?
𝐘𝐞𝐭 𝐇𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬,
and the counsel of the wicked
KEPT away from them.
The righteous shall see it:
𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐁𝐄 𝐆𝐋𝐀𝐃,
and the 𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒕 shall laugh them to scorn.
If they are not prostrated because of their stubbornness,
then their remnant shall be consumed with fire.
¶ Make now an agreement with God,
and offer to Him of your good crops.
Receive the law (Torah: teaching & instruction)
-------------from His mouth,
----and lay up His words in your heart.
If you shall repent before God,
𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭 𝐮𝐩,
if you shall put away iniquity
FROM your dwelling place,
Then you shall lay up silver like dust,
and the gold of Ophir as the sand of the valley.
Yea, God shall be your defense,
and you shall have plenty of silver.
For then you shall lift up your face to God.
And you shall make your prayer to Him,
and He shall hear you,
𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐅𝐔𝐋𝐅𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐕𝐎𝐖𝐒.
You shall also decree a thing,
and it shall be established for you,
and the (OHR) light:
shall shine upon your ways.
For it is said:
He who humbles himself shall be exalted;
and he who is meek shall be saved.
The innocent man:
shall be spared wherever he is,
and he shall escape:
by the purity of his hands.
