너희가 구하기 전에 너희에게 필요한 것이 무엇인지 너희 아버지께서 아신다.

 

또 너희는 기도할 때 위선자들처럼하지 마라. 그들은 사람에게 보이려고 회당이나 거리 모퉁이에 서서 기도하기를 좋아한다. 아멘, 내가 너희에게 말한다. 그들은 자기들의 상을 받았다. 너는 기도할 때 네 골방에 들어가 네 문을 닫고 은밀히 계시는 네 아버지께 기도하여라. 은밀히 보시는 네 아버지께서 네게 갚아주실 것이다. 

너희는 기도할 때 이방인들처럼 빈말을 반복하지 마라. 참으로 그들은 말을 많이 하여야 들으시는 줄로 생각한다.

마타이(마태복음)6장 5절~7절

Matittyah 6:5-7:
And when you (make tefillah) prayer, do not be like the hypocrites.
For they love to pray — standing in the synagogues and on the corners (of the) street to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, They already have their full reward.

But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door,….and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

And when you pray, do not «babble on» like (the) gentiles, for they think that by their many words: they will be heard.
